Long-serving choir member donates £250 to Nightingale House Hospice after 30 years of service

Dave Brown, a valued volunteer at Nightingale House, has donated £250 to the hospice after being presented with the cheque by fellow members of the former Rhos Orpheus Male Choir during their final performance in October for his 30 years of service.

The choir recently celebrated Dave’s 30 years of service by gifting him a cheque with the choice of donating it to a charity close to his heart. Without hesitation, Dave selected Nightingale House, where he and his wife have volunteered for over a decade.

Dave’s relationship with Nightingale House began years ago after he was inspired by the care the hospice provided to his late friends and choir members, Keith Phillips and Stuart Wilson, as well as his niece, Julia. He remembers being moved by the quality of care that Keith received and wanted to contribute in a meaningful way. This donation, he says, is a way to strengthen his connection to Nightingale House even further.

Dave said: “Initially, I began volunteering because of the hospice’s care for Keith and others close to me.

“Nightingale House has since become a second home for me and my wife as we volunteer for various events. It’s a place where people come together and give their all, and I’m so proud to be a small part of it.”

The donation from Rhos Orpheus Male Choir marks an especially meaningful milestone for Dave, who has dedicated his life to supporting the community through both music and charitable work.

Dave said: “The choir has always been so generous in supporting Nightingale, and I’m proud to be able to pass that generosity on.”

Expressing her gratitude for Dave’s support, Jo Kearns, Volunteer Manager at Nightingale House Hospice, said: “Dave and his wife have been invaluable members of our volunteer family, always willing to give their time and talents to support our work for anything and everything we need.

“It’s supporters like them who allow us to continue providing compassionate care to our patients and their families.

“Dave’s donation will go directly towards the services the hospice provides, helping to support patients with life-limiting conditions and their families. Nightingale House is mainly funded through donations, retail shops, and fundraising efforts, and the contributions of over 400 volunteers like Dave are a vital part of our ongoing success.”
