Nightingale House Hospice Light Up A Life campaign: Remembering loved ones and supporting vital care

Nightingale House Hospice is inviting the community to take part in its heartfelt Light Up A Life campaign, a cherished annual tradition that has been illuminating lives for 25 years.

Taking place on Sunday, 1st December at 4pm, the event will be held at Nightingale House, bringing together individuals and families to honour and remember loved ones during the festive season. The campaign, which has raised more than half a million pounds to date, plays a vital role in funding the hospice’s essential services. Donations help support diverse patient programmes such as family support, hydrotherapy, and wellbeing sessions, providing much-needed care to patients and their families.

Among those supporting the campaign this year is Beverley James, who, along with her family, will be remembering her late husband Gareth. Beverley said: “For us, it’s about keeping Gareth’s memory alive and doing positive things in his honour. Light represents life, and for me, the campaign continues to reflect that.
“We’ve been touched by the support and the chance to dedicate a moment to remember him in such a special way. The staff were so kind and compassionate at Nightingale House. They made Gareth feel at home and gave us precious moments together as a family.”

Reflecting on the importance of the event, Gareth’s Mum, Catherine James said: “For us, Light Up A Life is a time to pause and honour Gareth’s memory.
“It’s a beautiful way to celebrate his life while giving back to the hospice that did so much for him and us.”

The hospice invites people in the community to take part in this special evening. Dedications can be made online or at the hospice, ensuring each light on the tree represents a unique story of love and remembrance.

Elise Jackson, Campaigns and Events Manager at Nightingale House Hospice, said: “Light Up A Life is such a meaningful event for our community. It’s not just about remembering loved ones but also about supporting the vital work we do.
“Every single donation directly contributes to our ability to provide care and comfort during difficult times.”
